Corralling Autumn Leaves

I thoroughly appreciate condo living, especially the part about not having to be in charge of yard work. However, today I had the opportunity to help someone else take care of some fall cleanup and found myself enjoying the task.

The front yard was covered with a deep layer of sycamore leaves. I started by using a rake to brush the leaves off the bushes by the front porch, went over to the side of the house and did the same thing, then started raking the everything towards the curb, from which the trash department will come and take them away.

It was satisfying to see the grass appear as the leaves went away, but eventually the deep pile got too heavy for me to move. I handed my rake off, and someone with a leaf blower finished things up. The entire task took almost an hour, and unfortunately some new leaves had already fallen before everything was put away. The perfect patch of green grass wasn't perfect any more. But it wasn't my problem.

  1. I mulch my leaves anymore. I haven't raked leaves in years.

    1. I had gotten to where I did the same thing at the old house.

  2. Did you know that worms come out at night and pull the leaves underground for food? Once I tried to pull a leaf back out of the ground. The worm pulled so hard he dragged me underground as well.

    God bless.

  3. The only time I've raked leaves was when my children or grandchildren wanted them piled up so they could play in them. We've always lived in the country, and by the time spring arrives again, all the leaves have magically disappeared. No problem.

    1. I'm a firm believer in keeping as close to Mother Nature as possible...but when you live in suburbia the grass is important, and that grass won't grow if it's covered in leaves :-(

  4. I rather like yard work! I usually mulch mine with the tractor. I love it! Hubby cannot do anything with his arm, it's all mine!

  5. It's good exercise, I know, the leaf raking. They do get very heavy once they pile up.

  6. It is satisfying to see the fruits of your labor and aggravating when a gust of wind blows another yard full onto your green carpet. Soon it will be snow. Have agreat week.

  7. It's so much more enjoyable to do a chore because you want to, not because you have to.
