Writing By Witness

Earlier in the week when Hubby Tony brought in the mail there was an interesting-looking stationary envelope sandwiched in between two pieces of junk mail. It was addressed to both of us by name. The only sign that it might not have come from one of our friends was the addition of the phrase "or Current Resident". It even had a real stamp on it.

When I turned it over, the envelope flap revealed the sender.

Even though I was pretty sure I knew what would be inside, I still took out the single sheet of stationary and saw a neatly hand written letter. The signature line was pretty anonymous, but it was obvious that someone had taken a lot of time on it.

I suspect that Jehovah's Witnesses aren't making in-person house visits because of Covid, and at least some people are intrigued enough by a personal letter (like I was) to open it.

    1. And I'm sure the post office is glad to get the revenue from her efforts.

  2. Wow, now that's interesting! I've never know the JWs to handwrite letters, but it sure does make sense that they would considering everything going on with the virus. Pretty ingenious of them,. Pretty stationary, too!

  4. Yes, the Jehovah Witnesses are not letting the pandemic stop them from calling (or writing) on those they wish to convert. Terry received one of these letters. Here's the thing, although I don't plan to convert of their religion, it's nice to know people are sitting down and writing letters. I commend them for that.

  5. Have to admit, that's pretty clever! With all the shut-in's, who wouldn't welcome a hand-written letter.

  6. I wonder if they have letter writing parties. I used to facilitate a group to meet at the library and pass out post cards for everyone to write a note asking people to please vote. We used voter lists for our adresses.

    1. I bet they could figure out a socially-distanced way to do writing groups if they put their mind to it.

  7. It is pretty, but I imagine it's not handwritten, but preprinted. The JWs have such a big organization. Call me cynical!
I find it much more satisfying in telling them "No, thank you" in person and slamming the door. We don't get many trying to sell their religion around here now, though. We are so rural.

    1. My money would be on handwritten. If it was printed, it was the most realistic-looking typeface I've ever seen.

  8. It's not often that hand written letters make their way through the postal system these days (with consideration given to emails and text messaging.) I think I would have opened the letter too, out of curiosity. Have a lovely and blessed week.
