At the end of March 2021 Hubby Tony hung up his hat at work. Since that time
he has kept himself busy with fun activities and volunteer tasks. A while back
we were talking about why people celebrate birthdays and wedding anniversaries
but not retirements. The conversation didn't go very far, and I suspect Tony
forgot about it. However, the topic kept percolated in the back of my mind and
I decided to do something about it.
My plan was to give Tony his card after I finished with my morning tasks. However, when he came home from coffee with his friends he said that the topic of his retirement had come up. I pulled out the envelope for him to open before I left.
And because every celebration is better with food, while I was out I got a small carry out pizza, which made a great addition to lunch.
Very thoughtfully celebrated! How quickly a year goes by!
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, it's true that time seems to go faster the older I get.
DeleteThey make "small" pizzas?
ReplyDeleteIt's called portion control. I need it. :-)
DeleteI love the idea of celebrating a retirement anniversary, it's not only a transition, but a freedom as well.
ReplyDeleteA great freedom-more for Tony, but I've also been impacted.
DeleteThat was a nice way to celebrate a retirement anniversary! I retired on May 22 2020 and have celebrated every day since!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
DeleteCongratulations to Tony! And to you. Do enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteAw, that is sweet! My hubby retired in 2005, me in 2007. I never thought of celebrating it! Good idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you :-)
DeleteThoughtful little surprise for your honey, and the pizza was a plus. I have been retired almost five years. Thought we'd travel, and then life got in the way. But every day is a gift.
ReplyDeleteI hope things straighten out so you can get on the road.
DeleteTime does fly!
ReplyDeleteYes, indeedy.
DeleteTime flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. God bless you both.
Thank you.
DeleteAlready a year! Seems like you just wrote about his job-leaving and wrapping it all up a couple of months ago! As I've said, though, retirement years will go much faster than working years. Yes, every June I celebrate another year of retirement. This year will be Number 12. A former student is celebrating her daughter's high school graduation this year. I told her I had no idea how that was possible because I still remember HER senior year and graduation.
ReplyDeleteHow can you be retired for more than a decade! It seems like I was just reading about your journalism classes.
DeleteDefinitely worthy of being celebrated! I love how you got creative and made it special.
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
I'm in my happy place when I can put a unique spin on something.
