The Numbers Don't Lie

When I was getting ready to go to the grocery store this morning I whacked my right foot on the closet door frame. After letting out a few unprintable words I bent down to examine the damage.

The fourth toe (the little piggy who had none in the rhyme) had taken the brunt of the whack. I could manipulate it in all directions, so I was pretty sure it was bruised instead of broken. There wasn't a whole lot else I could do, so I put on a pair of shoes with a wide toe box and ran the errand.

When I got home I iced the toe a couple of times and generally babied it. After Hubby Tony got off work he said he was going to walk and asked if I wanted to go. The shoes with the wide toe box still felt comfortable, so I decided to join him. After some initial pain my toe actually hurt less than it had in the house. Our route took about 45 minutes.

I was feeling pretty good about how well I had handled my injury until I opened up my iPhone Health app to check my steps and other statistics. The most recent update for the phone included what Apple calls "Mobility Metrics". One of them was Walking Asymmetry, described as "the percent of time that your steps with one foot are faster or slower than the other foot". That would also include uneven walking patterns like limping. Based on the graph, I guess I was.

  2. Nothing hurts worse than a broken toe. I hope yours feels better soon. You are brave to take a hike with a boo-boo. LOL
I heard on the news this morning that a certain brand of TV can track your personal info. your phone knows everything.

    1. My toe seems to already be feeling better, and I hope that continues, because we have an adventure planned for later today.

I can't believe how many 'smart' appliances there are. It's only a matter of time before everything is connected.

  3. Limping will do that. Ha! I was opeing the bathroom door a few years back and caught my little toe just right, tore off the nail. Yeah, that kinda hurt. Hope your toe is well enough today for the adventure you guys have planned (as I see per your reply to Linda above ☝️). Be blessed and stay well, my friend!

    1. Yikes to the toenail! As it turns out our adventure was more driving than walking...as my bruised toe ordained. It was still fun, though.

  4. I've broken a toe a few times before (usually the baby toe) and it's so painful. I bet you were limping and I bet that continues for the next few days. Hope it's feeling better soon.

    1. Believe it or not, this is the second time this year I've had toe issues. The last time it was warm out (and being able to wear sandals really helped), but after a week or so I was able to get back to my regular business. Hope that happens again.

  5. I'm glad all my broken toes occurred before all these metrics.
