Tonight was that fast and easy night. Hubby Tony volunteered to cook the sausage up on the stove while I prepared the rest of the meal (sweet potato home fries and salad from a bag). After everything was ready he plated the food while I set the table.
We each took a bite of sausage, looked at each other, and smiled. They were really tasty. The casing was a nice brown color, and didn't have the 'snap' of a real sausage, but the interior did a good job of mimicing the real thing.
Afterwards I took a look at the nutrition label. The links include pea, rice, and faba bean protein, fat that comes from coconut and sunflower oils, fruit and vegetable juice for color, and a casing made from algae.
Five years ago today: Christmas Thank You
Glad that worked out! That reminds me I have some Ikea veg meatballs in my freezer it might be time to pull them out.
ReplyDeleteI think meatballs would be a lovely dinner.
DeleteYes!! Jerry and I like those, too, and just had them two nights ago! I sliced them and fried them in an all-in-one skillet meal with sliced baby yukon potatoes, diced onion, sliced carrots, and diced zucchini (tossed the zucchini in at the end since those take almost no time to cook). I seasoned the skillet with Mrs. Dash's No-Salt Southwest Chipotle Seasoning. Deeeeelicious!! You should try the Gardein Meatless Meatballs sometime. Our favorite way to have those is in a spicy-sweet bbq sauce with the sweet tater fries and a salad. Okay, lunch everyone! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe have two sausages left, and talked about how good they would be with sauteed peppers and onions. Great minds think alike!
DeleteHere in the UK, such products cost the same, (or more), than sausages made of real meat.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The dinner ended up being more costly than most we have, but with less effort...very nice at this time of year.
DeleteMy husband's sister and her husband live in Creve Coeur. Do you shop at Schnooks? I love that store so much, I always want to go there when we visit them. Never thought I'd feel that way about a grocery store.
ReplyDeleteI have both a Schnucks, a Dierbergs (the other big local chain), and an Aldi within walking distance of my house. I shop the sales whenever possible, so I go to those places as well as a couple others.
DeleteWell done! We had canned soup yesterday!
ReplyDeleteCanned soup is another great choice!
DeleteI have heard good things about Beyond Meat but never tried them. We like Whole Foods brand hamburger patties (fake meat) and Gardeins orange chicken. I always buy the chicken when our grandkids are coming because they really like it. I didn't care for it as much until we got the new oven that has an air fryer setting. It makes the "chicken" really crisp.
ReplyDeleteI tend to not purchase meat or "meat" of any kind, but will keep your recommendations in mind going forward.
DeleteI will have to try this, as long as the sodium content is within reason. It is hard to cook for HeWho can't have salt. He loves his meat, but if I am clever, I can use meatless products and slip them by him. He loves my homemade tomato sauce and it lends itself well to hiding things he would swear to never eating!
ReplyDeleteI like some of those products. I make my own vegee burgers, but think the meatless sausage might go nice in my scalloped potatoes and cheese dish.
