Sock Seam Solution

I have an issue with the toe seams on socks. Especially the one on the right side of my right foot that hits in just the wrong place.

In the summer I go barefoot inside, and when I leave the house I often wear sandals. The only time I put on socks is if I'm taking a long walk which requires athletic shoes. But once cold weather comes I need to wear them daily to keep my feet warm. Then it only takes a couple of days before my right pinky toe is sore and irritated until warm weather comes again.

For years I've put up with the problem, but the other day I had a brainstorm. If I turned my right sock inside out it might look funny, but then the stitching wouldn't be rubbing against my toe. (I tend to wear solid color socks, so the difference would be barely visible under my jeans. Besides, in these social-distancing days I don't get close to anyone anyway).

I tried my potential solution the other day, and it worked so well it's become my permanent fix.

  1. Don't you love it when you create a simple yet brilliant fix? Now if you could only patent this idea you could become a millionaire.

  2. My brother in law is so sensitive to seams he often wears tee shirts inside out. My sister says he wears his knickers inside out, to avoid feeling the seams.

    1. Middle Son has issues with seams and the feeling of the material in the clothes he wears. I didn't start having a problem until a couple of years ago.

  3. Bravo! I used to have the exact same issue, then stopped wearing socks like that a long time ago. Now I only wear the low cuff things (the next thing with more cloth then the pedi socks) because they're softer for me and no seams to bother me. I do have a couple pair of warmer socks if necessary, but I slip them over the low cuffs so any seams don't bug me. I have such awful skin issues with clothing because of my fibromyalgia, people think I'm too picky, but it drives me nuts the way some clothing is made.

  4. Same here about the sock seams! The seams inside the shoes, too. If they hit just right my toe will throb and the nail will come off. I am picky about what I put on my feet! If your feet hurt, it makes your life miserable. You tend to walk funny to take the pressure off, this will make your back hurt, then you will get a headache .....

    1. I agree that general body comfort starts from the ground up. If my feet are happy I'm happy :-)

  5. Proving that old adage that necessity is the mother of invention.
I go barefoot in the house year round.

    1. We keep the house pretty chilly. My feet would FREEZE in the winter if there wasn't something to cover them!

  6. Ditto or I wrap them under or farther over inside the toes, but seamless socks sounds like something to be tried
