Sun Up, Sun Down

Around here Daylight Saving Time began yesterday at 2 a.m. When Hubby Tony and I went to bed on Saturday night I reset the clock on my side of the bed, but couldn't remember how to do the one on his side.  It was disconcerting when I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't remember why there was a difference in the times.  However, the time change positive was that the cats slept in and didn't demand their breakfast as early as usual.

The first day of Daylight Savings Time always feels strange to me. Yesterday the afternoon felt 'off', with the normal Sunday activities done in more intense sunlight than what I've been used to.  Sunset came a little after 7:00, but the last light didn't disappear until a little after 7:30  We were able to ete dinner by natural light, and after dinner Hubby Tony and I took a walk.  Instead of the semi-darkness we would have had just a day before, this time it was nice and bright.

The downside of Daylight Savings Time is that this morning the sun didn't come up until an hour later. When my alarm went off at 6:30 it was still so dark I had to turn on a light to pick out my clothes (which I haven't had to do lately). It will be a couple of weeks until the day lengthens enough to counteract the time change.

  1. I need my sunlight in the morning, not at night. I change the clocks on Saturday, either losing or gaining the hour on a day when I have few obligations beyond household chores. Church attendance was sparse yesterday and I attribute it to the time change.

    1. I thought our church was about as full as it normally is for the 11:00 Mass, but maybe that was a mixture of people who regularly attend then and the ones who overslept for 9:00.

  2. I was thrown on Sun morning when I woke up and my phone said one time and my bedside clock said another. After shaking the cobwebs from my sleepy brain, I figured it out. I'm not a fan of the dark mornings!

  3. I hate the whole thing. I wouldn't have remembered except for the auto set clocks on the phone and computer where different than my battery powered wall clock, alarm clock and car clock. And some clocks are not so easy to reset.

    1. The majority of our clocks now automatically reset themselves, but I have to make a circuit around the house to remember to get the rest. And then when you get in the car that's another issue.

  4. A couple of our alarms are the newer types where you don't have to change the clock, they know, like the cell phones and computers these days. That's ok.

    1. Maybe one day everything will be automatic?

  5. I loved last week when it was light out with good temps. I continued on with my morning walk at 6:35 after my son got on the bus. This week I have to exercise in the house because I’d lose momentum by the time it got light out.

    1. I'm all for temporary changes, as long as they're positive.
