Word Of My Year

The calendar may say today is January 5th, but in my world it's the start of a new year.  I extended my holidays past New Year's Day and through the weekend.  Last night when I went to bed I set the alarm for the first time in a couple of weeks.   When it went off this morning I jumped into 2015.   There was work to be completed, paperwork to be done, errands to be run, and a book discussion date with a friend.  But before I got down to business I stepped back to ponder the big picture.

Several of the people and blogs I admire don't make New Year's resolutions. Instead, they set goals or pick a theme word. I thought that was a great idea, and decided my word for the year would be Organization.

This year I'd like to bring order to all the parts of my life.  My independent business has grown without much of a plan.  My house really needs an overhaul.  At this time next year I want to be able to say I've cleaned the superfluous clutter out of the basement, cabinets, closets, and drawers.

Now that the new year is here I'm excited to get started.

  1. That's a great word...and the goal I have for my home, too. The reno forced me to do it to three rooms and now I want the rest of the house that way, too!

I also agree that today was the first day of the year! haha.

  2. Happy organizing! Moving has helped me stay organized and get rid of clutter. Well, moving and a flooded basement...

    1. I've watched several friends who have lived in a home for decades struggle with clutter and 'stuff' when it's time to move on. Hoping to get a head start on that.

  3. I know you will get it done! Then come to my house! I didn't know you had an independent business.

    1. I'm calling my shopping a business. Makes it sound more official, don't you think?

  5. I have joined a free online book club that is having it's first "meeting" on Sat. the 10th. The book we are reading is "SoulSpace" by Xorin Balbes. Kathy I think you'd really enjoy it. It is full of marvelous tips on "creating a home that is free of clutter, full of beauty and inspired by you." Author helps his clients clear their houses and the book is chalk full of tips and examples. Really read worthy.

    1. Kelly, thanks for thinking of me! It sounds like a fascinating book, but right now I don't have time to commit to reading it. I WILL add it to my reading list, though.

  6. It is a Japanese tradition to clean, organize and get all your bills paid by the New Year. Sigh... This year, we didn't get it done. I'm now dealing with it a month late.
