My area's had warmish weather with (highs in the low 80s), but a cold front's coming through tomorrow which will cause the highs to drop from the 50s into the 40s by Monday. Everyone and everything is getting ready for the change. Including the stink bugs, which are sneaking into our house on a daily basis.
There are
multiple species
of stink bugs. I have no idea which type we're seeing, but it really doesn't
matter. All of them produce an unpleasant odor when they're disturbed or
threatened, so squashing them isn't a good idea.
However, they move slowly, so it's easy to place a cup over them, slide a
piece of paper under the cup, and then release them outside. I realize that in
the nice weather that's not much of a deterrent, but soon being tossed out
will mean a frigid stink bug death.

DeleteI vaguely remember there being stink bugs in Hawaii. I don't know why, but I thought they were greenish. I was never able to smell them before. But now that I've lost my sense of smell, I guess I never will.
ReplyDeleteI think there are many different types of stink bugs, but I think that in this case it's an advantage that you couldn't smell one.

ReplyDeleteWe've had quite a few of them in the house lately too. I flush them, and I have to say, I know everyone says they give off an odor, but I've never smelled anything.

DeleteWell, I'd take a Stink Bug invasion over a Scorpion one... but, unwelcome critters is a nuisance even when it's the more harmless ones.

DeleteI take a paper towel and fold it four times so I have several layers of paper between my fingers and the bug. Then they get squished so they can't come back in.

DeleteJust a little if any but not enough to be concerned about. The folding keeps it off your hands.
DeleteEvery now and then we have massive beetle invasion but I'm not sure its stink bugs. They're black with red lines around perimeter.

DeleteOh we used to have those stink bugs when I was a kid and the boys would bring them into class so the teacher had to let us go out and we'd waste class time airing out the room. That was the whole idea but man, those bugs do stink.
