Despicable!

The community radio station I listen to is having a pledge drive.  This afternoon I volunteered to answer phones.  I had a good time talking with my fellow volunteers and most of the people who called in.

However, there was one call that really infuriated me.  When I asked if I could take the pledge information the man on the other end of the line said, "I won't give any money to the station until they stop playing hip-hop and rap music."  Then he hung up.

This station is run by volunteer DJs; they choose their own music so each show is different.  If that intolerant person doesn't want to hear a particular type of music he just don't have to tune it at that time.

  2. Play MORE hip-hop! And he's obviously listening to the station since he knew all about the pledge drive and what number to call.

  3. Sounds pretty basic to me. Don't like the music? Don't listen to that station. Good on you for volunteering. Yep - takes all kinds.

  5. I can't imagine living my life always looking for the next thing to complain about like that guy clearly does. Sad...

While I am loathe to defend that rude guy, he does have a point: hip hop, rap, whatever you want to call it (I don't call it music) has no place in polite society. It bolsters the gangster thug culture, denigrates women (or 'ho's', as the rap culture puts it), and is a degenerate form of entertainment.

If a radio station airs that crap, I am outta there. Rap has no place in our society, as it coarsens us all.

Not that the guy had to be rude about it.....

    1. I'm not a fan of rap and hip hop music (and agree it could do without the profanity and denigration of women), but I'm a pretty live-and-let-live type of gal. I just choose not to turn my radio on to those shows when they air.
