Hubby Tony and I went to Mass together this morning. At the end of the service, after the announcements but before the final blessing the priest announced that today was the second annual World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, as proclaimed by Pope Francis.
I had never heard of the day before, but when he asked all the grandparents and elderly to stand for a special blessing I was proud to do it. After the blessing everyone remained standing for a present-a small tulle bag holding several Hershey's Kisses.

You get two grandparents days this year. The US grandparents day is Sept. 11th this year.
ReplyDeleteSo grandparents get twice as many days of honoring than moms or dads. That sounds about right.
DeleteI like this day! Pope Francis is actually in Canada this week to apologize for horrific crimes committed on the native people many years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe is an awesome person.
DeleteHow Sweet It Is! Wishing you well, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe Pope proclaimed it; but grandparents being elderly forgot about it. Someone should remind the Pope to proclaim it again every year.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That would probably be a good idea.
DeleteOur daughter and grandkids arrived late Sunday evening. The grandkids will be here all week but our daughter had to head home to care for her pets and to work. She's not sure when she will be back to get the kids due to obligations. Our son-in-law is in a very busy season with camp work so is unavailable to make the trip. That's fine with the grandparents. We can keep them fed and watered!
ReplyDeleteYou can feed them, water them, and make wonderful memories with them.
DeleteA sweet way to celebrate grandparents!
ReplyDeleteSweet both literally and figuratively.
DeleteNow that's worth going to church for!
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
