The winter solstice on December 21st was the shortest day of the year, and since then the days have been getting incrementally longer. However, the extra length has been at the end of the day. Weirdly enough, the sunrises have been getting incrementally later.
In 2017 yesterday (January 4th) and today (January 5th) have the latest sunrises for the year. Starting on Friday the 6th they'll start moving back, and we'll have more sunshine on both ends of the day.
That's exciting news for me; I don't like having the house completely dark when my alarm goes off in the morning.

Ha! Even the sun doesn't want to get up early!
ReplyDeleteYep :-)
DeleteLove that the days are getting longer!
ReplyDeleteKnowing that longer warmer days are coming is one of the main things that gets me through the cold winter.
DeleteThank goodness. I wondered why it seemed the mornings were not morning, but middle of the night dark. I can't wait for more light.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO with you!
DeleteMeans camping season is on the way!
ReplyDeleteTHERE'S optimism!
DeleteMe either. I like to get up to sunshine but that will still be awhile here. Our sunrise just shifted from 7:12 to 7:11. Long way to go...
ReplyDeleteWinter is SO very long that I'm trying to focus on the daily progress. So far it seems to be helping.
DeleteDark and cold are fun for awhile. Give me light!
ReplyDeleteIf I was in charge of the world we'd have cold and snow for Christmas week. Then it would go away :-)
DeleteI don't mind the morning part, but my bigger concern is that it stays dark a little later. Glad we are past the winter solstice. :)
ReplyDeleteEvery day past the winter solstice is an improvement.
DeleteHappy Winter. I actually enjoy all the different times. Sometimes, I love it when it's dark in the morning and at night, other times, I dig the light.
ReplyDeleteYou're quite the flexible person :-)
