Today I'm linking up with Betsy for The Random Acts Of Kindness Adventure.
The other day before my shift at the customer service desk I took myself out to lunch in the mall food court. The mall has a nice large food court with almost a dozen stands; after thinking about all my options I decided to grab a burrito from the Mexican place.
The person who made my burrito must have been new to the job. He had a hard time rolling it tightly and the meat kept coming out. However, he finally finished the job, encased the burrito in a foil wrapper, and handed it to me. I paid at the cashier stand and found a seat at a table in the back of the eating area.
Even though I only partially unwrapped the burrito as I ate, stuff kept falling out of it. I managed to corral the bigger pieces of meat and beans, but by the time I was finished eating there was rice all over the table and the floor underneath my chair.
At self-serve eating places I always throw my trash away and try to leave the table crumb-free. This time, though, I went the extra step and cleaned up the stray rice off the floor with a napkin. Since it's 'my' mall I know all the cleaning people in the food court. I didn't want to make their job more difficult

What a great random act of kindness!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mari.
DeleteOh, yes...what a good way to clean up after yourself and save someone the trouble. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteIt's the little things, isn't it?
DeleteWhat a great example to any shoppers watching you do this quiet RAK. This was special. Some would have gone back and complained to the boy making your burrito. You did GOOD!
ReplyDeleteThe section of the food court I sat in was pretty empty; I'm confident no one saw me cleaning...
DeleteThis was a great idea to pay it forward like that!
ReplyDeleteThe cleaning crew have so much to clean up and some of it is unnecessary. That was good of you to help out. I worked with my students to clean our classrooms and keep the place tidy. Our housekeeper always appreciated my clean classrooms. I visited the school last fall, right before opening, and got to see her, still cleaning the classrooms, getting them ready for the new year. I stopped to give her a hug and to chat as her daughter had been one of my students. After catching me up on her kids, she told me how much she missed seeing me at school because I was always so nice to her and my rooms were always so nice. Wish everyone made the housekeeper's job easier.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to be kind to EVERYONE, no matter what their job description.
DeleteYae! That's wonderful. We try to do the same thing when we eat out just because we know how unpleasant it is to sit down where a table is messed up. I hope the fellow improves on his burrito making.
ReplyDeleteI think he'll improve his burrito making or he'll be out of a job.
DeleteHow nice of you! I bet it was still a yummy burrito, though, even if it was messy! ha.
