The other day I noticed a shallow depression in the mulch underneath the shrub by the front door. I didn't think anything about it until I opened the front door a couple of evenings ago and saw this:
The front of our house faces west and gets the afternoon sun. In the 100-degree plus temperatures we've been having it's really toasty there. Mr. Bunny was smart; the depression was behind the bush, so he was in the shade. He must have been exhausted from the heat, because he didn't move immediately, but when I took several steps out onto the porch he slowly hopped away.
I bet he has several places to hang out to try to stay cool. I know I would!
This heat is so hard on wildlife. Standing in line at a store yesterday I looked out at the parking lot and watched a sparrow drink from a tiny round spot of moisture in a parking place. I hoped for his sake it was air conditioner water and not some noxious car drippings.
ReplyDeleteOh, my! I hope it was water, too.
DeleteWonder if sprinkling a little water in that area would make him more comfortable, or would it just turn to steam?
ReplyDeleteAs humid as it's been, I would think extra moisture would just make it more miserable, but maybe I'll try it and see what happens.
DeleteGlad he's found a good spot, if you don't mind!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't bother me one bit :-)
DeleteHappy Anniversary! And thank you for the Anniversary wishes as well! :) Hope you have a wonderful day! I think we are going to try out the food at the winery in Wright City--just heard about that one a few months ago, but heard it is wonderful with locally sourced food!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the depression holds babies? Though it would seem late for that. Cute bunny!
The depression is shallow (only a few inches deep) and big enough for one rabbit laying down.
DeletePoor little thing, I feel so bad for animals when there's not much they can do to beat the heat. That's so kind of you to let him/her camp out under these leaves.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend Kathy!
I am so sorry for what you all are suffering through. I sure hope it cools down before we make our trip to the Midwest in fall.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, but when I was getting gas at Costco the other day the attendant told me it was supposed to be above-average even into September!
