As close as I could get |
I figured by the bird's size and choice of food that it was probably a vulture. Back at home I did some research and learned that there are two possible types of vultures in my area. The turkey vulture has a red head and dark brown feathers. The black vulture's head is grey and it has black feathers. But a juvenile turkey vulture has a dark head and bill. That's my guess of what I saw.

DeleteWow! what a sighting!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen one around here.
ReplyDeleteIt was a first for me, too.

ReplyDeleteNice research! I like the vultures, watching them soar up above!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, with school done, there is a lot less pressure.
Ive seen vultures circling when I've been away from the city. It's mesmerizing.
DeleteWe get a lot of wildlife around here, but we've actually never had a vulture (well, that I know of anyway).
ReplyDeleteIf you have dead critters I know you have some type of scavengers. It's just a matter of which ones.
DeleteThe cleaner crew, I call the vultures. They are everywhere here. I knew an old man who wrote down the date every year when they return.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that vultures migrated. I'm off to do some more research....
