A "Day" I Can Really Get Behind

In the United States, April 7 has been designated as National No Housework Day, a chance to ditch the cleaning to-do list and do the bare minimum around the house.

Instead of filling the day with boring housekeeping tasks I did as little as possible. For example:

  • Tuesday is a laundry day, and because I like clean towels and pajamas I went ahead and did the two small loads.
  • Hubby Tony made dinner and took care of the dishes from both cooking and eating, but I cleaned up my things after my breakfast and lunch.
  • I scooped the cat litter as needed and took the stinky bag down to the trash can, then swept up the litter Foster Cat Smokey Joe kicked out of the litter box.

In a normal, busy day I would have multi-tasked, and all these things would have all been accomplished quickly. Today, since I was doing the minimum there was no need to hurry. I spent some time catching up on reading, took a nap, then played some computer mah jong and didn't feel at all guilty. I knew the housework would still be there waiting for me tomorrow.

  1. I didn't know about it but didn't do much but load the dishwasher. We took a drive to Burney Falls.

  2. Seriously? However, we were out in the hot sun trying to fix leaks before the next storm hits, going shopping, and a gazillion other things. I'm going to try to relax tomorrow if possible... if possible.

  3. Sounds like a day I could enjoy too! You know what you can always count on? Laundry, it is always there for you!

    1. Yes, laundry does have a way of piling up.

  4. Oh I missed it. Didn't actually do much housework though anyway.

  5. Kitty needs a wider litter box. Cats are slobs, plus they intentionally make a mess when they're mad about the food selection. I had to get mine a wide litterbox because they kept dropping poo on the edge.

    1. There's a finite amount of space for a litter box in the laundry room. The latest foster cat digs way less enthusiastically than the last one, though, so overall less mess.

  6. If only housework and laundry would do themselves! Wouldn't that be a perfect world? Oh yeah, also throw in food shopping, meal prep and dish washing.

    1. I actually don't mind laundry (because there's not much hands on activity to the task) or meal prep (what can I say-I like to cook!) but could definitely do without the rest.

  7. Did this increase any lap time for Smokey Joe? I am not great with chores, yesterday I did some washing up after the gym, but my sink is still not empty, lol! Maybe today!

    1. Smokey Joe wasn't available for lap sitting, and should probably have another featured post soon.
