Incalescence

According to Google, incalescence refers to the process or state of growing warm or increasing in temperature. That's what happened in my area today.

For the past ten days the temperature has been way below freezing, which made today's high of 46 degrees Fahrenheit feel fantastic. This morning when Hubby Tony and I left for church to do our monthly volunteer money counting shift I wore a heavy winter coat, but when I went out again after lunch to run errands I switched to the lightweight one and wrapped a scarf around my neck.

It snowed eight days ago. All of the roads in my area are snow free, but the shoulders and sidewalks aren't. Thanks to the outdoor nastiness I've been unmotivated to do anything outside, and today I had a large list of places to go, all along a major thoroughfare close to my house.

I headed east, stopping by the post office, thrift store, and pet mart before turning around and heading west to come back home, hitting an antique mall, florist, and craft store along the way. There were a lot of cars on the road, and rather than pull in and out of a bunch of strip malls, several times I took advantage of connecting parking lots to walk from one place to another. By the last errand I ditched the scarf and had my coat unzipped.

It's only the beginning of February and the temperature will be yo-yoing all over the place, so I have to keep every conceivable piece of winter gear handy. I never know what tomorrow will bring.

  1. Yep I am sooo happy with the turn around of the weather. I really needed to get out today-but our driveway is a steep hill-and still had snow melting with ice under it-hoping to do my errand tomorrow or the next day. Isn't the full moon amazing this week?

    1. The large trees just outside our living room windows block our view of the moon. I'm getting pretty impatient with the snow remaining on the sidewalks and corners of parking lots.

  3. We could do with some incalescence here, though our temperatures are far less harsh than in many parts of the world.

  5. I love how your errand stops could be combined into just one parking spot. I like the idea of connecting parking lots. We see that a lot in the small towns along the peninsula in the Bay Area. We can park in one lot and then saunter from street to street, block to block and never move our car.

Here, in Fresno, there are big box centers where there is usually just one store I want to visit, like the cat food store, or another one where ULTA is that store. Massive centers, but I only need the one store so I park at the end where it's located, close to the entrance/exit to the highway that took me there.

    1. For the most part it's the inner ring suburbs that are walkable.

  6. No sidewalks around here are clear yet either. Except the part of the sidewalk to get to my mailbox.

    1. I live in a neighborhood that has both houses and condos/townhouses. This afternoon I noticed that the condo/townhouse portion had clean sidewalks. I guess they were shoveled.

  7. Wow! 46 would be awesome! Unfortunately, I don't think we will be seeing that for at least the next few weeks!

    1. The nice weather only lasted one day, but we're promised more over the weekend.
