Other than the large diamond on her wedding ring, the jewelry she had on was subtle but definitely meant to impress. There were six or seven thin bracelets on one wrist, and four or five on the other. Most of them were gold, and several were diamond. Her ears sported large diamond studs. There were several thin chains around her neck, some of them holding small charms.
The woman walked past me and turned the corner. Even after she was gone from sight I kept thinking about all that jewelry. Did she have 'people' to do all the work around her house so she didn't have to worry about getting her jewelry dirty? Did she leave it all on or take everything off and put it back on every day (which would take a very long time)? Did she change the pieces out everyday or keep the same ones like a jewelry uniform?

ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of brain work to keep track and decide what to wear with what, and how to keep it safe and how to get more. I'm happy without. It's easier.
ReplyDeleteI used to put jewelry on, but since Covid haven't even worn earrings more than a handful of times.
DeleteOh, I bet she switches out that jewelry every day. She's got the time, and undoubtedly the jewelry, to do it.
ReplyDeleteI could picture her perfectly! I’ve wondered the same thing about people who wear a lot of jewelry daily. Do they have a system, or just tons of time?
ReplyDeleteGuess I am just lucky.. never come across women ( or men for that matter) who look like that!! Maybe that's because I only go to Wal Mart, the grocery store and the veggie stand in front of the gym!!

DeleteIt takes time, effort and money to be perfectly groomed at all times. It must make it hard to be spontaneous, though.
ReplyDeleteWas she happy?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
A good question, but I didn't get a chance to talk to her.
DeleteI'm going to take a guess and say, yes, she is happy. Happy that she has the ability to dress up and go out. As for the need to look a certain way, that may or may not have to do with happiness. I go out, occasionally, without makeup or in very nice clothing, and I'm just as happy as I am on those times I am made up. It's all about attitude.
DeleteI'm guessing it has to do with where we live, shop, and go out and about. I see women like this a lot of the time when I'm out on weekends, sometimes during weekdays at a certain shopping center that is very high end. Especially at restaurants. I used to call them the ladies who lunch (as in they had nothing else to do) but when all of us teachers retired and decided to call ourselves The Ladies Who Lunch, I kind of changed my mind about the well-heeled women I see. Time and resources have a lot to do with it, but there is also a certain personality that likes to do all that primping. This written by the woman who usually puts on makeup to go to the grocery store, but it is a high-end grocery store.
ReplyDeleteInteresting observation about some people being drawn to primping.
DeleteOur granddaughter attends a private school where her mom is a dyslexia specialist. This is the exact way that the parents all dress, as well as the daughters. I'll admit, that we attend things at her school, I feel a bit underdressed. But...these people are so friendly and they never look down on anyone. Each and every one of them have NICE homes and drive very nice cars. However, they would do anything for you....very giving people.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great community.
DeleteWhat's the point of her doing that? I think, what a waste of money.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has different priorities.
DeleteI have seen women like that.... perfect makeup and hair, tasteful jewellery, not too much, not too little. Designer clothes. Personally, I think it would take far too much time and effort to be perfect all the time. I have far more important things to do!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you!
DeleteYou know what is even more fascinating? A woman like this in hair, makeup and jewelry at the water park. This woman didn't even get her hair wet. Rick and I were amazed by her and we couldn't take our eyes off of her each time she came down that slide with her sons. Neither Rick nor I could do that without getting soaked from head to toe. She never got her hair wet. Her gold jewelry just glistened in the sun. But don't think for a minute I didn't wish i could be her. But it's not me. I look like a drowned rat at the water park.
ReplyDeleteWow! I would have liked to have seen that.
DeleteOh, she had someone to do the work!
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteExcellent questions, Kathy, and I have not the foggiest idea because this is way above my pay grade.
