Hubby Tony and I made our last trip to visit our kids and their kids in
mid-May. Several weeks ago I realized I needed to have more grandchild hugs before they started school. Tony booked a flight, we packed our bags, and we were on our way to
California for a week, where we spent three days with each family.
At Son Tony's, when he was unexpectedly called into work we helped out when DIL Ie had errands to
run. The other days we hung out, played games, assisted with errands, tagged along on a family field
trip to a park/farmer's market, and went to the nearby elementary school to ride
bikes.
At Son Brian's we played games, worked on a large communal jigsaw puzzle, and
went to a movie with DIL Nicole and the kids. On each of our two weekdays Tony
and I had the mornings free. One day we visited
Saratoga, went hiking at
Villa Montalvo,
and picked Grandson Jay up from his summer program early for some
Grandma/Grandpa time.The other day we walked around the
Santana Row shopping area and had lunch, then went bowling with Son Brian and
Grandsons Ell and Dee.
I couldn't believe how fast the time flew, but all of a sudden it was time to
repack the suitcases and head home. As I was getting ready to head to the car
Dee asked me when our next visit would be. That got me thinking.....

ReplyDeleteI wish that could happen, but for a host of reasons it isn't feasible right now. All I can do is think about planning the next trip :-(
DeleteTrips to the West Coast are good. Then you can go home and rest.

DeleteI don't know about the Bay Area DIL, but you are NOT going to get Modesto DIL to move. She has her family there.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure the parents were delighted to have THEIR parents around to help out. It's one thing I miss about being far away from the kids, just being able to jump in the car and run errands for them. We are going to be with our grandkids the first week of their school year as their parents have other obligations. I'm just grateful that we can do this because as we've said, the years are flying.

DeleteThis is great that you and Tony booked a spur of the moment trip to see family. Glad you had this fun visit and are already thinking about when you can go again...My Colorado grandbabies started school today...hard to believe it is already time...
ReplyDeleteI understand that schools have a lot more information to cover than they did back when I attended, but it makes me sad that kids have less summer vacation now.

DeleteHelping out when needed and enjoying activities like bike riding, jigsaw puzzles, and bowling with them makes for great memories. Picking up Jay early for some special time was a sweet idea. It's clear that the time flew by, and Dee's question about your next visit shows how much they loved having you there.

DeleteThis is wonderful! I’m so glad you were able to have quality time with each family. Our son and family just left this past week and the house is too quiet. They were here for a month, but we probably won’t be able to see them for a couple of years. Sigh… I wish they were closer by like yours.
