Today was my twice-yearly bed renovation day. I took off the winter duvet cover and dust ruffle and put on the warm weather versions. I also removed the flannel sheets from the bed and washed the mattress cover. When it was time to re-make the bed I remembered I'd received a new set of sheets as one of my birthday presents back in January.
The beautiful new sky blue sheets came packaged in a sturdy plastic bag that had a zipper and a tassel. When I took them out I was impressed at how soft and silky they were. When I looked at the label I was surprised to find out that they weren't cotton, but brushed microfiber!
I've always used cotton sheets (percale in the summer and flannel in the winter), so the idea of microfiber was a little strange. However, I try to be open to new ideas, so I washed the sheets and made up the bed. The sheets came out completely wrinkle free. I liked that the fitted sheet had a nice deep pocket, and elastic elastic that went completely around. The flat sheet was long enough to tuck in securely at the foot of the bed.
I'll have to see how the new sheets wear. If they're good, I may not go back to cotton.

Interesting! I'm curious as to how they will breathe...if they will be too hot or keep you cool. Keep us posted! May 1st is my day to do this! Some years I freeze the first few days. ha.
ReplyDeleteI did some online research and found opinions all over the place on breathability :-)
DeleteIt's been warm enough here that the flannel is uncomfortable, but next week it's supposed to cool off again so I compromised and put the blanket on the bed too.
I think another two weeks of flannel, here. I have new sheets for spring, too. Whenever...
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to figure out the weather this time of year!
DeleteI just checked that it's synthetic. Let us know how it works out.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was reading about microfiber sheets, some people said they had good wicking properties. Some said they weren't breathable. Time will tell.
DeleteI love microfiber clothing items for their sweat wicking properties, (especially in my underwear - don't do cotton anymore), I'll have to look into the sheets. Might be beneficial in the warmer months. Definitely not ready to change to warm-weather sheets here in NYC, yet, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I jumped the gun on taking the flannel off the bed (I usually do); the 10-day forecast has some nighttime temperatures in the 40s. However, I left the blanket on the bed so if it gets really cold I think the sheet, blanket, and duvet will be enough layers.
DeleteI live in a climate that even in the winter flannel would not be comfortable. I am curious about the microfiber though. I need something that keeps us cool. I'm curious about those pillows that supposedly keep you cool.
ReplyDeleteKenya, as the temperature dropped back into the 40s last night I can't answer your question yet :-)
DeleteHow are you liking the microfiber sheets in the summer? Are they keeping you cooler than cotton sheets?
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be working well--no more or no less hot than cotton.
