This morning I got an email from one of the local grocery stores with the
subject "It's National Dolly Day and We're Giving Back!" The body of the
message said that for the next week they're donating a portion of the sales of
Dolly Parton products to the Imagination Library.
I had no idea what they were talking about, but the Internet told me that
September 25 is celebrated as Dolly Day (or Dolly Parton Day), a day to remember
her, honor her, and live by the motto: What Would Dolly Do? September 25
(written as 9/25 in the United States), was chosen as a nod to her movie and hit
song "9 to 5".
Tennessee, Parton's home state, already recognizes her birthday on Jan. 19 as
Dolly Parton Day, but as you might imagine, there's a big Dolly Day
celebration in Nashville. California has officially established
Sept. 25 as Dolly Parton Day.
I have a jam-packed day, so there's no time for me to fit in a big Dolly Day
celebration, but I put on a pair of pink and rhinestone earrings, and will
concentrate on being kind to everyone I meet.

Signs Of A Return To Normal
She was an amazing person who did so much for others. She deserves her legacy to be continued on.
ReplyDeleteI never got the meno that today is Dolly day here in California. Today is my son's 42nd birthday so that is what's on my mind today and that there's a Giant/Dodger series starting tonight.😁
ReplyDeleteI don't usually join in these kinds of things.
If the grocery store hadn't pointed it out I would have been oblivious too.
DeleteThat is a good way to start a day. What would Dolly do? That's a great question and a good way to live one's life.
ReplyDeleteI watched 9 to 5 in honor of Dolly last night. I hadn’t seen that movie since it came out. I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
Delete"A diamond in a rhinestone world" is the perfect description of Dolly Parton alright!

ReplyDeleteI wore my usual Friday shirt--Frida Kahlo..That's my only nod to any celebrity.
ReplyDeleteAnd she's a good celebrity to nod to.
DeleteDolly Day sounds like a good day to be nice.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit 9-to(2)-5 took me a minute, haha. It's never a wrong time to be kind.
ReplyDeleteMe too, but once you see the logic behind it things make sense.
DeleteShe was certainly very talented and is very much missed.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
There is nothing better than being kind to others. Dolly Parton was quite a woman and after her death, we are learning more about her and her generosity and good will everyday. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteThe Dolly Parton frozen dinner of chicken fried steak is actually pretty good. I uncover it at the end to keep it a little bit crispy. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI will keep that in mind. Nothing like a Southern girl to do 'chicken fried' right.
DeleteWhat a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteI missed it... To be such a tiny lady, she sure packed a lot in this world...her giving was huge and her talents were awesome. Pink rhinestones were a perfect way to celebrate Dolly.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Dolly Day over here, but I love the idea of a whole day dedicated to kindness and books for kids. The Imagination Library might be her most beautiful legacy of all. And pink rhinestone earrings are the perfect way to join in!
