Based on my research it seems like the best time to get a flu shot is in early October so it lasts for the entire season. The best time to get the fall COVID vaccine is generally September or October, but I've heard of several people getting sick so I decided to try to do that sooner rather than later.Of course the vaccine has been caught up in politics, and the whole system is chaotic right now.

Since then I've checked the pharmacy website a couple of times, but earlier today I read Dkzodys post about getting the latest COVID booster I checked again. Appointments were now available!
Because we had no other plans for Friday night Tony and I made appointments and had a 'date' getting boosted.
The paperwork process was a little clunky. The associate who checked us in grumbled that she had done the job successfully all day but was now getting a computer system error message. She overrode the message, and fifteen minutes later Tony and I were walking out of the store, wearing matching bandages on our shoulders as proof.

ReplyDeleteI'm checking Walgreen's daily for a pharmacy that's closer to home for my booster. So far, Walgreen's is showing appointments, but in exclusive areas. I feel because we're a poor area, that we're being redlined.
ReplyDeleteAll the Walgreens here in Fresno are being closed.
DeleteWe have both Walgreens and CVS. I much prefer Walgreens, and for a non-Medicare claim it is the preferred store.
DeleteWe've just booked our jabs. It's good to be covered, but I hope your arm isn't sore.
ReplyDeleteIt's no sorer than other times.
DeleteI stopped getting COVID shots years ago after reading about blood clots and myocarditis as possible side effects, but to each his own I always say. Get them while you can, crazy nutter HHS secretary RFK jr looks to be on his way to banning them among other things. Next year folks might have to get them in Canada or Mexico.
ReplyDeleteIf the vaccine is very difficult to find I don't know how hard I would work to seek it out.
DeleteOur doctor usually gives us the flu shots. I personally am not a fan of the covid shot and my cardiologist is not a big fan as well. Glad y'all were able to make a date night and get your vaccines..
ReplyDeleteHow interesting about your cardiologist and COVID vaccine. My husband has had heart surgery and his cardiologists told him to get the COVID vaccine as soon as possible back in the very beginning. He's had every variation every six months until this year when there was a disruption due to politics so it's been a year, but we got ours this past week. Heart patients do not do well with COVID.
DeleteI've tested positive for COVID more times than my peers, so I figure getting vaccinated might help me have lighter cases.
DeleteI'm glad you were able to get it.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteOur doctor said to get our shots in October. I'm thinking of going earlier. Did you get a flu shot too?
ReplyDeleteThe past few years I have NOT paired the two shots. Unless I hear something different in the next few weeks, flu will be in early October.
DeleteI would like to be in your shoes. My provincial government is the only one in Canada who will be charging for covid boosters this year: $100. I'm calling it a stupid tax. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI thought the USA was the only one who played games with vaccine boosters.
DeleteI got the original two vaccines in 2020, one booster in 2021 ... since then I have had more than a few medical professionals here, and in states I've lived in, have less than favorable comments. I had Covid once in October of '23 a very light case. Never had a flu shot, never had the flu. A sister in Ohio had Covid twice and my sister in MO never. Life is strange. Stay healthy and happy!
ReplyDeleteLife you said, life is strange. All the medical professionals I see encourage keeping up to date with inoculations except my chiropractor (who has several 'interesting' health theories.
DeleteI did get an updated covid vaccine before the recent Alaska trip and thankfully have never had it. We both had a flue shot last week as the local CVS was offering and there was no wait or appointment needed.
