After lunch today Hubby Tony left to meet some friends. While he was gone I made dinner, ate a snack, did a couple of crosswords, then decided in honor of Give Something Away Day I would take the bag of donation items next to my dresser to St. Vincent de Paul. (And then go into the thrift store in front and see if there was anything I needed to buy😼).
This morning when I took a walk after breakfast it was hot and humid, and I soon realized that since then the conditions had only gotten worse. Thank goodness for car air conditioning! Traffic was a bear, but I finally made it the parking lot. However, when I pulled up to the donation center I saw a sign that it was closed for the day. (BOO!)I still went into the store, but there was nothing that struck my fancy. On the way to the exit I asked a clerk if the donation center would be open tomorrow, and learned that at some point in the past its hours had changed; it is now closed on Tuesday and Thursday.
I could have driven ten minutes out of my way to take the donation items to Goodwill, but I wasn't in the mood to battle more traffic. Instead, the bag will drive around with me until the next time I'm in the area.

ReplyDeleteI smiled at the bag just riding along until next time.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's not there for so long I'm tempted to put a seat belt on it and call it a passenger :-)
Delete"National Give Something Away Day" I missed it! I can still drop a few things off at your place tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteNo thanks! Got enough stuff of my own.
DeleteSometimes things have stayed in my car for weeks, just waiting . . .
ReplyDeleteI've had that happen way too many times.
DeleteSo funny- I've had a similar experience this week. I have 4 bags to give away and they were closed. We don't use the car that much and I forgot about the bags sitting in the back seat for 5 days now...
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to move the bag to the front seat so I remember to take care of it today.
DeleteGOOD INTENTIONS DO COUNT. I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. I EITHER FORGET THE HOURS OR MY DAYS ARE MIXED UP.
ReplyDeleteWe have an amazing recycler here called Just Porch It. I notify them of how many bags I have (no breakables, nothing wet or moldy), they give me a pickup day, I agree, and the bag(s) go out on my porch by 7 a.m. and they are gone, poof, by 4 p.m. They will literally take rags, even torn and dirty items. They sell the usable stuff to thrift shops and the other materials go to making carpet and carpet padding. It is a great organization, and it's owned by a woman.
ReplyDeleteIntentions matter! Thank you for having good ones
ReplyDeleteI've done that before. I had a bag of clothes in my car for a few weeks until I came across one of those big blue donation boxes that I put it in.
