Perseverance

Dictionary.com defines perseverance as "steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement".

When I was out walking this morning, I saw these blooms in a weedy strip between the sidewalk and the street:

It's a native plant called frost aster, which if left alone would stand about three feet tall. Despite being mown back to just a couple of inches it's found a way to bloom.

What an amazing example of perseverance.

    1. They certainly picked a bad place to sprout!

  3. Weeds are just plants growing where we don't want them. The frost aster has no idea it's a weed. Lovely little flowers.

    1. I'd consider the dandelions and crabgrass in the strip weeds...the asters, not so much

    1. Good question. It was on a pretty public street, so I don't know.

    2. Oh, I thought it was in front of your house! Well, the sidewalk is public! You could pull up a handful and see if you get a few roots to take home! ha. Sounds like it would be hardy!

    3. We've had a nice rain; maybe the roots WOULD pull up :-)

  5. Another example of perseverance would be my rosebushes. I'm terrible about taking time to water the yard and care for it properly, despite the too numerous to count lectures from my parents and neighbor over the years. And yet, those rosebushes still continue to survive and bloom year after year.

    1. You're lucky. Over the years I've had NO luck with roses!
