My current favorite black cat, Foster Smokey Joe, had a bit of notoriety today when he was featured in a social media promotion by the shelter publicizing a ticket raffle to the Savannah Bananas baseball game next weekend. The photos of Smokey Joe show him playing with a catnip banana his cat sitter gave him a while back. The tie-in also included a link to the list of adoptable cats on the shelter's website.
Tonight after dinner Smokey Joe asked for a lap to sit on, which I was happy to do. It's sometimes hard to tell with a cat but I think he appreciated me as much as I appreciated him.
Oh no, I did not know it was such a holiday! No wonder the two black kittens gave me the stink eye when I greeted them this morning! Barack and Michelle are growing into magnificent cats. Barack is gorgeous with a shiny sleek coat of fur and eyes that change from green to a bright gold. Michelle's coat is not as shiny and her eyes don't change color, but she has a sweet disposition. Barack knows he is a handsome boy! Kevin and Ginger are the indoor cats. Kevin likes to cuddle on his own terms, but Ginger purrs non-stop. My kids used to call me a crazy dog lady, but I have added cats and a turtle to my resume.
ReplyDeleteSoon you will have an entire menagerie!
DeleteI thank you so much for this, ❤️ Kathy. I have had 3 black cats 🐈 😻 🐈⬛️ in my life, two were together, as they were twins...brother and sister. The other black cat I had was much later, a female. Every one of them were beautiful, with very sweet and gentle dispositions.
ReplyDeleteThese black beauties are the last ones to be adopted because of the unfounded and cruel things people associate with them.
I've loved every cat that's crossed my path.
DeleteYes, me, too! Regardless of the colour!

ReplyDeleteI had a black cat that lived 19 years. He was a sweet heart. I miss him.
ReplyDeleteAh, Smokey Joe and Savannah Bananas connection. I was sad I didn't win the lottery to get to go to their game in Eugene. Maybe next time they come around. I also entered two contests, winner to get tickets but didn't win either.
ReplyDeleteSavannah Bananas tickets are hot items.
DeleteHurray! My favourite black cat, Smokey Joe, has hit the Big Time!
ReplyDeleteAnd he's trying hard not to let it go to his head :-)
DeleteI have given up trying to figure out what cats are thinking.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteReally cute promotion. I wanted tickets but didn't get them in the lottery. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteWhoever put the photo together had to go deep into the archives of the foster parent facebook group.
DeleteOh how cute! Susie tends to have one of those faces ( do cats have faces?) that always looks like she's plotting something.
ReplyDeleteI think cats definitely have faces
DeleteI have no doubt your cat appreciates you.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to tell, but my ego likes to think he does.
DeleteI've been more of a dog person most of my life. Of course, you can enjoy both dogs and cats. Dogs and cats that grow together often get along. I now know a cat that might like me more than her but she is enjoyable. This cat belongs to my girlfriend (I still wondering what the best word for girlfriend now that I'm over 70).
ReplyDeleteI recently heard of the Savannah Bananas. My daughter and her kids went to a game.
I think using the word 'girlfriend' feels young and enthusiastic, and say keep doing it. The Savannah Bananas are very entertaining.
DeleteHe's such a pretty black cat!
ReplyDeleteHe is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of Smokey Joe asking for a lap to sit on. What a polite boy he is, and very beautiful, too.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about his polite manners, although he's developed a sneaky way of jumping up onto the countertops when we're not looking (which is NOT allowed).
DeleteWell done Smokey Joe.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Smokey Joe is beautiful. My son has a black cat and she is the sweetest girl.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a black cat before, but that's only because each of ours has lived for a couple of decades.
DeleteA catnip banana promo for the Savannah Bananas? That is genius! Smokey Joe sounds like a natural star. Nothing beats a cozy lap snuggle after dinner to prove that black cats are pure good luck. Hope his 15 minutes of fame helps find him the perfect forever home!
ReplyDeleteWhoever posted the photos must have done a deep dive into the foster parent and volunteer Facebook page because our cat sitter had posted it more than a year ago.
DeleteI’ll give mine some extra treats
ReplyDeleteThat is always appropriate.
DeleteSmokey will be famous.
ReplyDeleteYes, he's had his fifteen minutes.
Deleteunfortunately my memories with cat were not good ones since my childhood ,but i enjoyed being with pet cat and her family my mother had during my village life :)
ReplyDeletehonestly it is good to know such day is celebrated that denies superstitions
