Of course, if you're not a fan of extended daylight, after the longest day of the year it will start getting incrementally shorter every day. The poem "Here Comes" by Shel Silverstein speaks to me abut how fast time seems to fly by.
Five years ago: Humidity Hair
Shel Silverstein was so right.
ReplyDeleteWe look forward to longer, lighter, warmer days, but they are soon over, it seems.
The cycle of the seasons seems to turn faster and faster every year.
DeleteWhen we have the longest day I hate to think we're on our way to winter, but today was warm and sunny. I love summer!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the season up to a point, but when the temperature starts hovering in the mid-90s F and the humidity is high I much prefer to stay inside.
DeleteMy kids were big fans of Shel Silverstein poems when they were young. Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteI've never talked to anyone who wasn't a fan of Shel Silverstein. His poems are easy to read and very approachable.
DeleteGreat song writer - like: "A boy named Sue".
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I did not know that! Thanks for the information.
DeleteOh, Shel Silverstein - what a treasure. I still have his books that belonged to my son.
ReplyDeleteI have the books too.
DeleteGood morning I totally forgot about the soltice loved the poem
ReplyDeleteTwo of my three sons are in STL visiting their Dad .. my Sister and they had lunch at the Balkan Treat Box yesterday ... still raving.
ReplyDeleteThe chef at the Balkan Treat Box just won a James Beard award for the Best Chef in the Midwest. It was well-deserved.
DeleteThey were able to have a really nice conversation with her!
DeleteIt's definitely summer here it's so hot.
ReplyDeleteIt’s always summer here in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteThe sun rises early, sets late, and the heat never really lets up.
Reading Shel Silverstein’s poem makes me smile because while our days don’t shorten much, time itself still seems to fly just as quickly.
Veronica Lee, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I guess the moral of your story is that time flies no matter where we live :-)
DeleteLovely poem.
ReplyDeleteDeus caritas est!
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteI like the extension of daylight hours... Dawn the Bohemian
ReplyDeleteThe other night I wasn't feeling good and went to bed at 8:30. It was so light I didn't even need to turn a light on in the bedroom.
DeleteTempus Fugit was the name of our high school annual. That applies to not just high school!
ReplyDeleteYou're right!
DeleteI love summer; I don't mind heat. I don't like winter, snow or sleet!
ReplyDeleteYour own summer poem!
DeleteI do love when it gets slowly darker. I like when it's dark early. lol.
ReplyDeleteI would be down for early darkness, but do NOT like the cold weather that comes with it :-)
