Rain...Rain...Cold...More Rain...

Not only is it still raining here, the temperature today is a chilly 20-degrees lower than average.

Things will get better starting by the middle of next week, so hopefully this year St. Louis will only have a short blackberry winter (the Midwest's colloquial expression for a cold snap in late spring when the blackberries are in bloom).

Whenever I hear Mitch Miller I think of my parents, who were big fans of his.

  2. Our blackberries here don't ripen until August. And I like them very much so I wouldn't want their bloom cut short by a cold spell.

    1. I love blackberries. The temperatures last night dipped down into the 40s, so cold enough to be brisk but not low enough to endanger any vegetation.

  3. That's a term I never heard before. But I have heard the music and love it. Thanks for the reminder.

    1. You're welcome! I think every area has a description of a mid-spring cool snap that references whatever would be blooming in that area.

    1. Every region seems to have its own term for a mid-spring cool snap.

  6. All new to me, the expression, the orchestra, the singer, but nice.

  7. Whoa Mitch Miller is a blast from the past. I haven’t heard his name in decades. Blackberries grow wild in my area. They try to take over but the berries are good. We had a couple of them on our hill but husband dug them out because of our dogs.

    Have a good day.

    1. My parents had a stack of Mitch Miller albums. The one I remember most was the Christmas sing-along, which I used to play that for my boys when they were growing up.

  12. It’s cooling down here too, but not that much. Hopefully that means the summer will be mild.

  13. We watched Mitch on TV. I'm not sure who got the albums, me or my sister. I'll have to look around.

    1. I lost track of the folk's albums, but eventually bought a CD of "Sing Along With Mitch" Christmas carols. Tormented the kids with it when they were growing up :-)

  14. The Bay Area had gale-force winds on Saturday. Although windy and cold on Friday, nothing like Saturday. We felt like we were being blown over as we walked downtown San Mateo. Sunshine, though, most of the day, so there was that.
