Was It Something I Said?

I've subscribed to dozens of blogs, which means that every day quite a few posts show up in my feedreader. I go through all of them, and try to comment on as many as I can. More and more of the blogs I visit have enabled comment moderation, so my thoughts aren't visible until they're approved. It makes sense; I've noticed that I'm getting more spam comments, so I'm sure others are too.

I also like to find out if someone has commented on my comment and so will revisit the post a day or two later. In the past few weeks there are a couple of blogs where nothing from me is showing up! I like to think that I leave constructive comments but maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe Blogger is up to its old tricks again and sending things to Spam folders?

  1. One word (if this comment indeed becomes visible): relatable.

  2. I imagine that is frustrating. Some blogs I follow have the feature & if I do get back they show.

  3. My guess would be spam filter! That's why I check my blog's spam filter all the time. Who knows why some comments end up there and others don't?

    1. I've even had some of my own responses end up in Spam!

  4. Once a week, a comment ends up in the spam folder. Sometimes, my own comment back to the commenter will end up in the spam folder! Now that's really crazy!

  5. I try and check the comments for "spam" every time now. But my problem with comment moderation is I'll go back then wonder, did I leave a comment here or not?

    1. I usually leave the post unread in the feedreader as a reminder.

    2. Sometimes I just KNOW I left a message for that post, but it never appears, and I never get to see the writer's thought on what I wrote. I figure it's just the way of the blogging world. I feel fortunate that I seldom get spam type comments.

    3. Fortunately, I've been getting fewer spam comments lately.

  6. I have had this happen as well...as of late, I have had a few anonymous comments. I always enjoy your post and your comments.

  7. It probably got stuck in the spam folder and the blog owner doesn't check often. I have to check my spam folder everyday because there's always a bunch of comments in there.

    1. I suspect you're right. I have things set up so I receive an email when someone comments-if I don't see it on the post it's in the spam folder.

  8. I have comment moderation, I'm supposed to get notification of any comments immediately, by email. Most I do get, but there are 3 or 4 people whose comments don't ever get sent to me via email, (but I see them in moderation when I go to approve or delete someone else's comment). You are one of the people whose comments I don't get via email, just a happy surprise when I see you've commented.

    1. I have comment notification enabled too. There is one regular commenter whose notification message ALWAYS goes to my email junk folder (even though I've marked them not as junk innumerable times).

    2. I get emails for most comments. Your comments I don't. You are one of three people that I don't get comment emails.

    3. I wonder if it's because I'm special, or a PITA?!?

  9. It is frustrating and I've had similar issues! Blogger is great when it works.

  10. I haven't seen anything from you on my new blog, so if it was mine, that's why. It just didn't show up. :-(

    1. Danielle, I just discovered that for some reason I forgot to add your blog to my reader. WTH! I've fixed the issue-looking forward to going back and seeing what you've been up to.

  11. I have comment moderation, just because I "might" post something "controversial" and don't want hateration showing up without my knowledge. (Thanks, Mary J Blige for the invention of the word hateration)

  12. I have to approve comments but sometimes I find comments from others in the spam folder. Even comments I made in reply to others on my own blog end up in spam.

    1. I think the strangest issue is when my OWN reply ends up in spam.

  13. Comment moderation is very frustrating. I let everyone comment; even anonymous, because I believe my readers will understand about Spam and rude comments. I then gradually check the comments made - any unwanted ones are marked SPAM first and THEN deleted. By doing so, the system stops that person from commenting again.

    God bless.

    1. Victor, I do the same thing you do, and try to get rid of any offensive ones quickly. However, I understand that others may not have the time and energy to quarterback the comments on a timely basis.
