The front arrived on time and quickly cooled things off. At bedtime it was in the low 50s, which should have been great sleeping weather, but because my joints hurt I couldn't find a comfortable position. I tossed and turned for more than 90 minutes before finally drifting off. Even after I fell asleep I woke up several times to use the bathroom. It was a far from restful night.

According to Bernoulli's principle, liquids and gases flow from areas of higher pressure to areas of lower pressure to equalize pressure differences. Barometric pressure exerts force against the body. When the pressure drops, there is a difference between the pressure outside and inside the body and the body tissues expand and press against the bone and joints, causing pain and discomfort.
It made me feel better to know that there was a scientific reason for my nighttime woes, but it doesn't make me feel great to know I get to test out the theory again soon. According to the forecast Thursday is supposed to be in the 90s°F, and Friday the high 50s°F.Five years ago today: Confusion Leads To Custard

My Bones always tell me what the Weather is bringing. Now I know the Scientific reason, Thank You. *Winks* Our Weather is Bananas too. It's been well over 100 now for over a Week and breaking Records Daily, then a 50 Degree decline at Night. We're consistently about 22 degrees above Average and that's scary to contemplate if that continues, Summer Temps could reach 140 which is sustainable for Life.
ReplyDeleteOooops, which ISN'T sustainable for Life... damned Post Stroke Partial Aphasia has me thinking one Word and another comes out!
DeleteWhen I was young I would laugh at 'old people' and their weather aches and pains. Now it's not funny anymore.
DeleteInteresting information, thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog post and for commenting. I appreciate it.
Thanks for explaining my aches and pains unless it is arthritis. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteAnd there's a lot of that in the transitional seasons of spring and fall. My knees and my left hip are my weather indicators. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteMy main issues are my lower back and knees.
DeleteSummer is really going to be fun.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it will be contrary and turn out below average?
DeleteCurrently, temps this high seem unfathomable to me.
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteWe were up in the 90's... and tonight we are down to the 30's. Crazy! We didn't turn on the a/c but did turn on the ceiling fan which helped! The pollen is driving my eyes wild!!
ReplyDeleteNot much pollen here yet, but when I dusted yesterday there was a slight tinge of green on the rag.
DeleteDear Kathy I am sorry for your night wasn’t restful completely, I hope fixing the problem can help and you get comfortable sleep by the grace of kind God🙏♥️
ReplyDeleteThe good thing about a bad night's sleep is that the next night is solid. I woke up refreshed today.
DeleteAnd here I was thinking irritable was just my nature! LOL! That really is interesting! Crazy up and down weather in Georgia too. Take care.
ReplyDeleteKay, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I'm off to check out your little corner of the internet.
DeleteIt's little comfort to you, but at least you know why your body is reacting the way it is. My sympathies!
ReplyDeleteYou're right. As long as I know what's going on the problem isn't as bad.
DeleteOh my, this could explain a lot. I got sudden knee pain one side, figured it was from doing back exercises but it was much worse at night. I knew that was likely from swelling. I didn't relate it to our crazy changing weather. Maybe the weather changes had something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteWhen weird things happen to my body I track the symptoms to see when they start/end and if there's anything that makes them worse.
DeleteFor decades I suffered with migraines that were caused by atmospheric conditions. If the barometer went up, one side of my head hurt, then when the pressure dropped, the other side of my head would feel pain. Fortunately, that seems to have all gone away when I went through menopause.
ReplyDeleteI don't get headaches, but my joints have become more in tune with the atmospheric changes as I've aged.
DeleteYour post sounds very much like what I hear from my Sister who lives in Olivette. The weather loves to play games with us, not always fun I know. Hang in there, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI know you know how wild and crazy St. Louis weather is!
Deletelike so many others, my body alerts me to the changes in the atmospheric upstream and downs. strange how this all works. have a good day Kathy
ReplyDeleteWell, my goodness, so that is the reason I, too, had a sleepless night. I have muttered that weather affects the joints, but never looked it up. Tnank you for this.
ReplyDeleteWe have a hard freeze here, and it is lasting. When we get warmth, I suspect it will come with what seems like a rush.
I would much prefer the normal gradual change of seasons, but the Universe didn't check with me :-)
DeleteBe interesting to see if that happens again. Glad you found the reason.
ReplyDeleteI will certainly be tracking the issue!
DeleteI think you are right about barometric pressure affecting us. I know it did when a barometer fell on my head.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yikes!
DeleteMy mom gets the barometric sickness really bad. Hope you feel better soon
ReplyDeleteThanks.
