My Mind Works In Strange Ways

Several of the blogs I follow (Debby, Myra, A Joyful Chaos) sometimes participate in the Wednesday Hodgepodge, which provides a list of prompts to answer. I enjoy reading their answers to the questions.
This week one of the words prompts concerned the Lake Superior State University 2025 Banished Words list. One of the words was skibidi. I have no idea what the word means, but somehow it made me think of skidamarink, which made me think of the song that I sing to the grandchildren. (My mind works in strange ways.)

Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo.
I love you!

Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo.
I love you!

I love you in the morning,
And in the afternoon.
I love you in the evening,
And underneath the moon.

Oh, skidamarink a dink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo.
I love you!

  1. Not strange at all - in fact it’s quite brilliant that you thought of it from that word. I used to sing that song with my daycare and nanny kids. Brings back happy memories.

    1. I guess I need to hang out with younger people to be in touch with modern slang.

  7. "Skinnamarink" was originally written and performed by the Canadian kids' entertainment trio Sharon, Lois & Bram and was a huge hit for them about 40 years ago! Here's a link to them performing it --

    1. The trio's name is familiar. I wonder if they had a presence on PBS in the late 80s, when my boys would have been watching.

  8. I don't think I have ever heard of that word, but what a fun song to sing to your grands. Young people make up all kinds of words and sometimes I have to ask Mylee what in the world is she talking about...not bad words, but just words that will most likely never be in a dictionary.

  9. I found this... "Skibidi is just making fun of slang, I’m sure you know it’s in reference to the skibidi toilet viral videos the kids seem to like." Also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwIDTvEKM7g

  10. I dislike the word skibidi. Some of the words kids say now like, drip for shoes and some other unusual words catches me by surprise.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! Young people slang is strange to me, too. I suppose mine was to the adults in my life.

Off to check out your corner of the internet now.
