I heard on the news this morning that Target will remove all cereals
containing certified synthetic colors from its shelves by the end of May 2026,
and Walmart has set a goal of doing the same with all their private label
products by January 2027. All of a sudden the less than vibrant sprinkles I
bought yesterday made sense.
nstead of the vibrantly colored and more visually appealing artificial
dyes, these sprinkles are colored with beet juice, vegetable juice, annatto
extract, spirulina extract, turmeric, beta-carotene, and paprika
oleoresin.
I guess I will eventually get used to the muted ones.

Those are muted indeed, as you say. But healthier to eat, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI only eat ingredients like this once or twice a year. In my world, artificial dyed sprinkles would be a splurge treat :-)
DeleteMuted yes, but a better choice indeed.
ReplyDeleteI suppose.....
DeleteEven if muted but they look good! Natural colors are the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! I was just surprised at the color change.
DeleteNot as vibrant, but I'm sure they are healthier. Changes are coming I do believe.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with the emphasis on healthier food, but it seems like something that isn't a main ingredient (like sprinkles) could be exempted.
DeleteHealth first!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes feel choice is being eroded and that we live in a nanny world.
ReplyDeleteYes! I would prefer to have a choice in what I eat.
DeleteWow! This is great. Finally getting toxic substances out of our food supply. What a breakthrough for kids suffering from all the artificial coloring in simple foods.
ReplyDeleteI feel for kids who suffer with allergies, but in my opinion it would be nice to have both conventional and naturally dyed items to choose from.
DeleteTurmeric is supposed to be good for you.
ReplyDeleteI guarantee that the amount they used in the sprinkles doesn't provide any health benefit.
DeleteA great way to eat vegetables.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I am sure there are not real vegetables, but wouldn't it be nice if there was?
DeleteFirst I have seen this!
ReplyDeleteIn the past few days I have been looking at the baking section of every store I go in. The vast majority of them still have the vibrant decorations on the shelf.
DeleteI fancy the muted. Though I don't eat jimmies. They are fun to look at.
