Taco, Taco, Taco

This morning my email had messages from Chipotle, Qdoba, and Uncle Julio's informing me that today was National Taco Day. Of course, each of the 'Mexican' restaurants invited me to come there and celebrate.

Instead, Hubby Tony and I searched out a taqueria that was so authentic we were the only non-Hispanic customers. The chips were crisp, the salsa was spicy, and the tacos were authentic.

Much better than any chain place.

    1. We are native Californians and if two weeks pass without tacos or other Mexican food, we go into withdrawals. We love good tacos, burritos, loaded nachos, along with a margarita or horchata.

  2. We had a cute little Mexican restaurant by us that had the best Mexican food ever! Very authentic! Unfortunately they closed and the next best one is in downtown Detroit, about 30 minutes away. Those tacos look good!

    1. I like Mexican food, but not enough to drive a half hour for it.

  4. Fresno is taco famous...even our baseball team becomes the Fresno Tacos for one night during the season. Probably more taco trucks here than any other town. Everyone has their favorite. And yet, I love the hole in the wall where we get amazing food, El Bajio is our go-to for authentic Mexican food.

  5. What kinds of tacos are in your pictures? I like tacos tripa and tacos lengua, definitely not going to find those at taco bell. We used to have a very authentic Mexican restaurant near our home and I would go there with my daughter. She liked just beef tacos, chips and salsa. One day after saying my order in Spanish so my daughter's delicate sensibilities would not be affected, she said Mom, you do know they have translations for the names of those tacos in the menu. I know what you just ordered. I told her to just avert her eyes from me while I am eating, because those kinds of tacos were so delicious to me and there is no way I would even know where to buy the ingredients to make them myself. We talked in between bites and she averted her eyes when I picked up one of my tacos to take a bite.
Avert your eyes now if you wonder what those tacos I ordered were. You probably already know, though. Taco tripa, is tripe taco, and taco lengua is taco with cooked, finely sliced (beef, I suppose) tongue. They were so good on super thin, fresh soft tortillas served with sliced onion, cilantro and your choice of salsas.

    1. The one at the top is just beans (no meat). The bottom plate has chili verde and carnitas.

I've had lengua, but I've never been able to get into tripe.

  6. I agree. I remember when we went on our honeymoon, not choosing an all inclusive situation because we wanted to experience the foods of the island through local restaurants.
