Hubby Tony is much more of a football fan than I am, and even he lost interest in the game when the St. Louis Rams moved back to Los Angeles in 2016. However, he makes an exception each year for the Super Bowl, which is usually the first Sunday in February.
Years ago Tony would go to a 'men only 'watching party, hosted by the father of one of his good friends. When that group fell apart we started watching as a family. Eventually the boys moved away and then it became just the two of us. (I guess we were ahead of the trend. This year the news sources were advising people to avoid socializing for Covid reasons.)
The biggest problem with a small group is that it's hard to have a nice variety of food options. Two weeks ago I pointed out to Tony that a local caterer (The Art of Entertaining) was offering "Big Game" packages for different sized groups-one of which was just the right size for us. Tony placed the order and picked it up yesterday. I was out running errands, but when I got home and looked in the refrigerator the large bag took up almost an entire shelf.
Dessert was a selection of bite-sized bars and a mint for each of us. To make things a little healthier we added orange sections.
Sunday is Tony's day to cook dinner, so he took charge of microwaving the things that needed to be hot. Once the broadcast started Tony primarily watched the game and my focus was the commercials. Just like always.
I saw Shirley mentioned you on her blog and I see you follow her. So I jumped over here to check things out. Well my fellow St. Louisan, you probably live about six or seven miles away from me. I'm down by Mercy Hospital South. Small world. Small town St. Louis.
ReplyDeleteOnly in St. Louis, right?! We have some good friends who live off of Mattis. I'm off to check out your little corner of cyberspace.
DeleteIt was a pathetic Super Bowl game. I sort of expected that, since the Chiefs weren't playing their best games in the playoff. Then when Andy Reid's son who works with the Chiefs had that wreck Friday and almost killed a child in the process, I'm thinking that was on everybody's mind, too.
ReplyDeleteI was rooting (first) for Kansas City, but (second) for a good game. Sadly, it was neither. There's always next year.
DeleteHealthy snacks compared to wings and fries many get.
ReplyDeleteI guess it was a pretty well-rounded meal. My body told me last night and again this morning it was too rich, though :-)
DeleteMany of the cafes here were offering take out for Super Bowl Sunday. I don't watch football but I did like looking at all the charcuterie boards that were being offered for the big game. Some of the local small shops were offering beautiful foods, and had it been another day of the week, I might have taken one up on its offerings. I don't go out on the weekend, though, so it didn't happen. I did order dinners for next Friday from one place that makes divine food.
ReplyDeleteI was thrilled we chose to get food from a local establishment instead of a chain restaurant.
DeleteYup., another Super Bowl is over. Tony did a great job of serving! Just the right amount and a perfect menu! Had a chuckle with the peppermints being served.
ReplyDeleteDon't think I'll be watching anymore games. I didn't think the commercials were as good or even worth remembering. Didn't even watch the half time show.
I agree with you about both the game and the commercials. So many of the larger companies passed on the opportunity to advertise this year.
DeleteA nice, different dinner, at any rate.
ReplyDeleteMUCH different than our usual Sunday fare.
DeleteWhat a fun deal! We watched part of it, I went to bed to read. I'm baffed!
ReplyDeleteBetween you and me...I did a good bit of reading on my computer when I wasn't watching commercials :-)
DeleteThat's a perfect size snack tray for two. I always lament the sizes of prepared trays and sandwiches and even plastic bag wrapped vegetables and fruits. They're too big for one person to consume before spoilage. I don't care about sports at all. So no, I didn't watch and don't care who won.
