They're at it again. The spammers and their comments, that is.
I let anyone comment on my blog, but remarks on posts older than 21 days are moderated. That means I get to approve them before they see the light of day. If someone I don't know leaves a comment I visit their blog to see what's on the other end. I've 'met' some of the nicest folks that way, and I end up adding their blog to my RSS reader. However, sometimes the link leads straight to a Google+ page with no real content, in which case I'm not interested. And sometimes the comment comes from someone who just writes nonsense; those go straight into the trash can.
For several weeks the spam comments have been attaching themselves to the same three or four very old articles on my blog, and I ended up closing those posts to additional comments. I hope that doesn't deter someone who is truly interested in what I have to say.
The newest tactic is for a spammer to post the same comment on several of my posts at the same time. The subject matter is usually completely off topic, and often off color. When I find them guess where those comments go?
Five years ago today: Sweet Feet
Occasionally I get these spammers and I mark the comments as spam and they get deleted by blogger.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do too. But those spammers (and sometimes their distant relatives) come back the next day and do it again.
DeleteI get mostly advertising spams. Annoying.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes, it is.
DeleteGrrrrrrr. Annoying bastids, aren't they!
ReplyDeleteVERY annoying bastids!
DeleteI had that last week, one spammer, same comment, 4 posts. I marked them as spam. But I found that not listing/promoting my blog on Blogger itself keeps me almost entirely spam free. Just a suggestion. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a fine line between making sure anyone who wants to read (and comment properly) on my blog finds it and keeping the bad guys away.
DeleteI'm always dumbfounded when I hear Blogger writers complain about spam. It's just not a problem on WordPress due to https://akismet.com Doesn't Blogger offer something similar? Every now and then I look at my Akisment numbers and see that the plug-in has blocked thousands of spam that I never even knew about.
ReplyDeleteAkismet seems to be designed just for WordPress blog. All in all Google, the owner of Blogger, seems to do an acceptable job of not letting spam through. Every once in a while, though, I'm guessing the spammers find a way around the filters and it takes a while for Google to catch up with a stronger "fence".
DeleteMy lament with Blogger is that I cannot now post on most of the blogs because the author does not allow URL listings. I'm glad you still let me have my say here!
DeleteYou are doing a good job controlling Spammers!
ReplyDeleteCrazy world we live in. Just a few years ago I would of thought Spammers were those who enjoyed eating meat out of a can.
Experiencing similar problems. I'll have to try that closing of old posts. Thanks for the info.
