That doesn't sound like a lot of snow to me, but it's got the weather people in a frenzy. They've been hyping the storm up for the past couple of days. Before a single flake even hit the ground several schools had cancelled classes for the day or announced they were having early dismissals.
I started working at the mall Customer Service desk at noon. Fifteen minutes later I received the first call asking when the mall was going to close. At that point there was no snow on the ground. Every fifteen minutes or so I'd answer the phone and tell the person that the mall would be open regular hours tonight. (If that changed they'd post it on their website and social networks.) At least answering the phone gave me something to do. There weren't many people in the mall, because they'd been warned not to be on the roads.
With all the hysteria over the snow I wasn't looking forward to driving home during the peak of rush hour, but my commute was very easy...probably because so many people had left work early. It normally takes me 35-40 minutes; today I walked in the house 50 minutes after I got in my car.
A funny twist on the snow predictions:

Though I miss my sister and close relatives in your part of the world, I do not miss the snow!
ReplyDeleteIf I was in charge we'd have snow for Christmas. Then it would go away until the next year.
DeleteOh, that is kinda funny! We're supposed to get 6-10" tonight, but they are seldom correct. It is coming down right now, though!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
DeleteYep... I got out of Dodge yesterday! The Sunday snow had ice in Perryville and by Cape about 4". Roads were good tho.
ReplyDelete4" of snow!
DeleteQuite the snowy winter we're having.
DeleteI have to go shovel as we speak, another snowstorm here in the Toronto area. We have been spoiled with mild winters the past few years, now back to normal!
ReplyDeleteThis year we've had more snow than normal, but the past few years have been below average. I guess that's why it feels like so much-we've been spoiled.
DeleteThe sun is shining and it's 39 degrees at 8:45 when I am typing this reply. I am trying to get up the will to go out in the "cold" to grocery shop. I have yet to replenish our supplies since our return from the coast. We had lovely warm weather right up to the time we returned and now it has turned cold again. There are freeze warnings for the outlying farming areas. Not good since the fruit trees have begun to bloom.
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping my fingers crossed for good weather for your area. If those fruit trees freeze the produce prices will only go up!
Delete47 degrees and pouring rain this morning. We need the rain so we are all giving thanks for that.
DeleteI wish I could send you some of our warmth. My daughter has been sending us daily text photos of life in Chicago. Lots of shoveling over there.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could have your warmth, too! We haven't had any snow since Sunday (and that was only a dusting), but the temperature hasn't been above freezing for days.
