This screen shot from
Weather Undergroundtells the story of my area in the month of October.
Temperatures have been running about ten degrees higher average, and
precipitation has been nonexistent. Normally by this time of year we're having
pleasant, mild days and evenings cool enough to add an extra layer, but it's
been warm enough that we've turned on the air conditioner.
For the past week I've heard that a change will be coming, and it's supposed
to show up tomorrow. After a day of heavy rain (HALLELUJAH!) I will be digging
in the closet for some long sleeved shirts and jeans to wear during the day,
and pulling the blanket over my shoulders at night.

Glad it is cooling down for you.
ReplyDeleteShorts at No Kings today.
ReplyDeleteAnd rain gear!
DeleteThere's a change coming for us, too - rain, and lots of it, at last.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a nice feeling?
DeleteHow lovely! 🌧️ There’s something so special about that first cool breeze after the rain — it feels like the world is exhaling. Time to welcome the cozy season with long sleeves, soft blankets, and maybe a good book in hand. Change like this always brings a little magic with it 🍁✨
ReplyDeleteSadia, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
DeleteThere was rain in northern California last week while we were in the Bay Area. We got rained on while there, but it was light compared to the amount in the San Joaquin Valley. Fresno got an inch and a half, really a lot for us at any time of the year, but huge amount for this time of the year. Cotton is still in the fields. Raisins are still on the ground. I'm wondering if this is a harbinger of the season to come.
ReplyDeleteI know that farmers need to have predictable weather; did the rain impact anything?
DeleteWe came home after the storm. Actually had wonderful weather for the drive from Palo Alto to Fresno. Have seen and/or heard very little news since getting home so don't know what the crop outcomes are. We saw lots of unpicked cotton, though, in the fields, as we drove across Hwy 152 towards Hwy 99.
DeleteFirst cool front is the best day of the year besides Christmas.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
DeleteIt is very cloudy around here, but the temps are still very warm. Could you please some some of the rain and cooler temps here...
ReplyDeleteI will do my best, because from reading your post I think we are kindred spirits in this matter.
DeleteI know exactly what you mean. That feeling of waiting for a big weather change when the temperatures have been stubbornly high is a real test of patience. Seeing those average temperatures running ten degrees higher in October must be frustrating when you are ready for cozy autumn weather. Digging out the long sleeved shirts and jeans and finally pulling the blanket over your shoulders at night are the best parts of the seasonal shift. I hope the change arrives exactly as promised tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIt's mid-afternoon as I type, and things are looking good.
DeleteIt's finally starting to cool down here some days.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you are glad about that.
DeleteYep we have had rain all day today-I still have my rain gauge out will check on i tomorrow
ReplyDeleteOh that's great you getting rain finally!!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI have the heat on right now. Burrrrr.
