Fall Foliage Map

If you live in the United States and like to see the leaves changing at this time of year, you might want to check out the fun interactive Fall Foliage Prediction Map.

The slider bar at the bottom of the map has two-week increments from the end of August through mid-November. Clicking on a date will show you the status of the leaf color in any area of the country.

The map uses historical data and forecast predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to make an educated guess about peak timing, and according to the website, is "the ultimate visual planning guide to the annual progressive changing of the leaves."

  1. It's a great idea but I can tell you they are 100% wrong about Connecticut right ows. We are nowhere "near peak" in our leaf color. It's been just too crazy a summer, weather-wise, for historical data to be able to predict our color. So much rain and heat--the leaves are just barely turning.

    1. Interesting. Our color seems to be delayed, too, but the map reflected that.

  2. Very cool. I'm from New England and I so miss the fall colors there. Here in the Midwest they think they have foliage but it's just nothing compared to what I'm used to.

    1. I've never seen the New England fall colors. The trip is on my bucket list, though.

  3. Pretty much spot on for us. No change. Went out yesterday to see if there was anything worth photoing. Nothing.
