Better To Be Safe Than Sorry?

I try not to respond to texts from people I don't know, but just the day before it showed up I had spoken to someone who is in sales and said she visits St. Louis once a year.
Phone number deleted for privacy

However, I put her in my phone as a contact, so if the text was from her, her name should have popped up. I checked the area code the text came from, and it wasn't even close to where she lived.

I know that if it was a spam text any type of engagement back would verify my phone number was active, so I just deleted it. It felt impolite to not respond, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

  1. I'm not as nice as you. If I don't recognize them I report it as junk and block them.

    1. If I hadn't just had a conversation with someone who would eventually be coming though my area I probably wouldn't have thought twice.

  2. ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry when dealing with unsolicited/unknown phone calls, texts and emails. Ordinary rules of politeness absolutely do not apply here.

  5. I ignore and delete if I don't recognize the number. Once in a while if I am interested I type the full phone number into a search engine (like duckduckgo.com) and it may say who it is from or if it is spam.

    1. I've done that before, too, but was caught off guard.

  6. Better to err on the side of caution, this could have been some creepy perv looking for a love connection.

  7. I stop all such texts and calls by keeping my cell-phone permanently switched off. No one has ever contacted me.

    God bless.

    2. No ... my Blog readers write to my office at enquiries@holyvisions.co.uk and I answer every email received. I find cell-phones a distraction. I use them only to dial out when I need someone.

  13. I agree too, always better to be Safe these days than Sorry. Having to be so Careful, Cautious and Cynical isn't preferable, but it's necessary.
