Hot And Humid Activity

I live in the large part of the country that's currently dealing with a heat wave. A heat advisory (with heat index values-the combination of actual temperature and humidity-of up to 108 degrees started on Saturday. Originally the advisory was set to expire this evening, but then it was extended until Thursday night. I hope that's correct!

Every summer the area has at least one heat wave, so the extremes are nothing new. But they're still annoying. On mornings without commitments, Hubby Tony and I have been arranging our schedules to try and beat the heat. Right after breakfast we grab water bottles and go out to walk.

At that time of day, the angle of the sun is low enough that some of the sidewalks are shady. Sometimes there's a sprinkler system going that I can walk through.  If we choose a route that includes stores I can use the bathroom and refill my water bottle. (And then find a chair and sit for a while in the air conditioning).

By the time our walk is finished I can't wait to get into the air conditioned condo and take a cool shower. My biggest challenge is making myself do anything other than sit around for the rest of the day.

  1. We are on our patio by 5am every morning just so we can take in the cooler air. I don’t like the heat anymore. And humidity makes me faint. We’ve had an unseasonably cool start to the summer but next week we’ll be seeing those triple digits once again and I’ll be comfortably inside.

    1. It always amazes me how similar our weathers are, considering you are much farther north.

  3. Come on down south. Would you believe it's only 70 degrees down here? 🥵

  4. Sorry to hear you're in the Heat Dome! So is half of Canada right now, but luckily, not my half.

  5. It makes our 'heat wave' look quite ridiculous. I do sympathise, though - heat is not my friend.

  6. I've heard briefly on the news about your area's heat wave. Nothing here, cool and overcast in fact today and tomorrow. No extreme heat so far and nothing in the forecast either.

  7. Our summers are pretty much hot for three months. Not the high humidity, though. I make sure to get all the chores done very early, and all my errands run before noon. Thank God for air-conditioning.

    1. The heat and humidity makes for a double whammy. On one of our summer visits to the Central Valley I noticed that things were very nice as long as it was before 10 am

  8. I hear you. Between the heavy hatch of biting bugs and the heat, I am staying inside this last while. I guess I can catch up on all the stuff I promised myself I would do last winter. Except knitting. I cannot handle wool unless my hands are cold. We are running the climate control fairly high, low to mid 70's, and that seems to work well.

    1. I know I had a list of projects that I abandoned when the weather got nice, but I can't find it.

  9. Good to get the walking in early. Very good. I do that with macro walks.

  10. In the rest of the country it's a heatwave.
In Texas and Florida it's just summer!
