Happy First Day of Summer 2016!
According to my phone weather app the sun rose at 5:06 am and will set at 8:29 pm (with the last light at 9:01 pm).
The actual solstice (when the sun’s rays reached their northernmost position) occurred in my area at 5:34 p.m. I was eating dinner, and I paused to raise my glass of ice water to the beginning of the new season.
Oh, yeah. The solstice. The world never fails to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteCheers to the start of summer for you and start of rainy season for me.
The longest day of the year, love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought the longest day of the year was the last day of school! Aren't you supposed to be able to balance an egg on one end at just the right moment of the solstice? I'll raise a cup of Diet Coke, a day late, to you and the change of season, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried that egg thing. Maybe next year.
DeleteIt was 3:18 in my part of the world. And I only know that because my mom called me to ask if I'd google it for her. I'm so glad she did.
ReplyDeleteCool! Your mom and I had the same idea.
DeleteWe had our longest day on Wednesday--14 hours and 42 minutes of sunshine. Now the sun will begin its move southward.
ReplyDeleteI think it's interesting that in my area the summer heat usually doesn't kick in until AFTER the longest day...then stays around for several months despite the incrementally shortening days.
