--The bangs I got to go along with my new hairdo are now long enough to fall into my eyes, but too short to tuck behind my ears. I'll have to get a haircut soon.Five years ago today: Who You Gonna Call? FurBusters!
--I wonder what type of bird had sported the small pile of feathers I found scattered next to the maple tree, and what ate the rest of the bird?
--It's a shame the 'turf authorities' have deemed that violets and dandelions are weeds that shouldn't be allowed in lawns. Their purple and yellow flowers go so well together.
--If they also reclassified chickweed and henbit as acceptable lawn additions, our yard would be one of the best in the neighborhood.
--I stepped on several fresh mole runs in the far corner of the back yard. Someone once told me you'll only find moles in fertile soil with lots of earthworms. Wonder if that's true?
--The neighbor's fence has wide cedar slats mounted on both sides of the rails. One of the boards on our side has broken off and the piece is laying on the ground. Would they appreciate me letting them know about it, or would they think I was fault-finding? (If the shoe was on the other foot I'd want to know).
Every day for a year, starting on my 49th birthday, I did something I've never done before. Now that I've completed that project, here's more of my adventures.

Random Thoughts
Some random thoughts from my first grass cutting of the year:
I'd tell.
ReplyDeleteI remember my grand daughters struggling through the band growing out phase, to have hair all the same length. A lot of barrettes were involved.
For years I had my hair all one length, and no bangs. There was little upkeep. Now I'll have to make sure I get regular haircuts.
DeleteI'm not looking forward to the weeds. I would mention it to the neighbours, but you know them better than I do.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a lawn service, but stopped doing that several years ago. Since then we've had more weeds each summer.
DeleteI saw henbit for sale in a nursery catalog! I laughed so long! Granted tho, it was pretty henbit...had variegated leaves. But it was still henbit. And personally I love violets growing up in my yard. Star of Bethlehem too.
ReplyDeleteAs to the fence, I would lay the board over the fence at the area it fell off. If they care, they will ask about it. If not... at least they have their board back.
In our previous house I actually bought a variegated henbit (which they fancied up by calling it lamium). I had a spot under the deck stairs where nothing would grow. IT didn't either :-)
DeleteGood idea about the board.
I just had someone come out to my house and mow my lawn yesterday. It looks so nice now!
ReplyDeleteAren't freshly-cut yards the best?!?
DeleteYour neck of the woods must be different from suburbia California. We share responsibility for the fences surrounding our yards with the owners of the other houses. In our case, that means three different fence owners. We are responsible for our side of the fence which means we repair anything that falls off on our side. Our southern neighbor had a cat who tore off the bottoms of the fence boards to escape into our yard (all the cats love our yard for some reason) and so she put up a double fence on her side to keep the cat in the yard. (He was too large to jump the fence.)
ReplyDeleteI remember my parents negotiating the fence issue (in a new subdivision) when I was a kid. The first house Tony and I bought came with a chain-link fence. Our current house had none. To this day, the house to the east of us is the only one with a fence.
DeleteIn St. Louis this weekend, I was looking at dandelions and thinking how pretty the yellow looks against the green grass. My father always kept an awesome lawn and it makes sense that moles would like fertile, worm-ridden soil. Good luck with the bangs. Bobby pins?
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to be in the area to enjoy the beautiful weather :-)
DeleteI solved the hair problem by getting it cut.
