How Can It Be Five Years?

Five years ago, on March 31 2021 Hubby Tony walked into the office to turn in his things and walked out a retiree.

I wanted to do something to commemorate the milestone. Searching for 'fifth year retirement presents' gave me lots of links for wedding anniversary presents but not much else. Eventually I decided to use those ideas as my inspiration. The traditional fifth wedding anniversary gift is wood. The modern gift is silverware.

I figured Tony didn't want any more tchotchkes, so instead of a gift made out of wood I made a donation to Forest ReLeaf of Missouri which will plant a tree in his honor.
We also went to the Botanical Garden and walked around the tree-lined paths to see what was newly blooming.

As for silverware, the diner I took him to for breakfast had some darn good food....and utensils 😀.

    1. Although neither of us will be around to see the fully-grown tree I like the idea of planting for the future.

    1. Since Tony retired during COVID everyone was working from home. He wasn't able to have any type of commemoration at the office, so I thought it would be nice to do something now.

  6. I love it! I think every reason to celebrate we should celebrate. Life passes too quickly.

  7. So how does Tony feel about being retired for 5 years? I only vaguely remember that marker as we were doing a lot with the grandkids as they were only getting ready to start public school. That's when things changed for us as they needed to be present for school, not traipsing around with the grandparents. I was also volunteering with the local historical society, giving tours to third graders at one of the historical landmarks in the county. We put a new roof on our house that year, so I guess that was my 5 year gift!

  9. I've never heard of Forest ReLeaf before. I get all my trees from the Arbor Day Foundation located in Lincoln Nebraska. I'll have to check out this Missouri group.

    1. It seems to me that it would cost less if the trees didn't have to be mailed.

  11. Congratulations to Tony on five years of retirement! That’s a huge milestone. The tree donation is such a thoughtful 'wood' gift, and you can’t beat a good diner breakfast for the 'silverware' part. Hope you both had a fantastic day celebrating!
