Beware

Have you seen this email with the subject line "Reminder : Some of your informations must be updated!" yet?

When it first showed up yesterday I was very concerned.  However, after I read the email carefully I noticed there were several grammar issues.  The link led to a website that looked officially like Apple's.  This was easily one of the best phishing schemes I've seen.

After I reported the email to my provider and the Apple legal team I went to the official Apple website and checked my account. Would it surprise you it didn't need any updates?

  1. I have received two emails about my Apple account. The first made me start to do something until I realized the logo was all wrong. They just wanted me to click on a file that would probably put malware on my phone. The second time I just deleted immediately.

  3. Definitely delete anything like this - don't even mess with the links! Hackers are getting clever, but they can't seem to master spelling, can they?

    1. Eli, I usually DO immediately delete, but last month I had changed some things on the Apple account, so this one caught me off guard.

  4. I too received something about my Apple account. Puzzling because, as far as I know, I don't have an Apple account, so I just deleted it. When in doubt, I hover over and check email address coming from. If it looks sketchy, I don't bother. If it looks legit, I don't go through the email to access, I go to the actual website and double check for a notice confirming need to update account.

    1. Good ideas about checking out the email address and going directly to the company website instead of clicking on links.

  5. Good grief! I didn't receive anything like this yet. Yikes! Thank you for the warning because if I'm not thinking, I might miss the grammar errors that you caught.
